Call a referendum now. Let's have a straight question - yes or no. Get it over and fucking done with.

And could we please drop the crap about the oil. The oil's gone, finito, spent.

Get yersel a bottle of coke. Shake it up and take the top off. It skooshes oot all over the shop. That's what the North Sea was like in the 70's.

Now, put the top back on the bottle and shake it up again. You'll get some more to skoosh oot, but no as much. That's what the North Sea was like in the 90s.

Now, see all that coke in the bottle - about a third full. You can shake it and shake it all you fucking like, but it's never going to skoosh oot the top. That's the North Sea now, or very soon.

When the nationalists start bumping their gums aboot "It's oor oil" and "There's umpty squillion barrels in reserve", they don't have a fucking clue.

The oldest well in America sits on big "reserves" and it's still pumping oil over a hundred years after being drilled. But it produces about 20 barrels a year. If there's no pressure, there's fuck all you can do.

Aye, you can pump water down under pressure, but that tends to disperse the oil into the rocks, leading to micro deposits which only specialist wee oil companies can chase. Notice how all the really big companies got out of the North Sea a while ago?

What I obect to with the SNP is only one form of "Independence" is on offer - the one that sees Scotland gang-fucked by the EU. If you do then you must vote SNP, they're the only game in town. After independence they may still be in power or that may fragment because their "reason d'etre" is independence. After that who knows. I'll tell you one thing though, being part of the UK isn't working and I believe that if the economy improves as seems likely these bastards will get back in.. In fact I've got money on them to be the biggest party at very attractive odds. The tory vote is not increasing, only the Labour vote is not coming out but they will at a G.E.Dark Lochnagarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09086636653505467565noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6091725511821029654.post-23831853481459781132009-08-07T23:32:28.875+01:002009-08-07T23:32:28.875+01:00Jings Rab, I've never seen one advert. Mind you I tend to listen to radio for specific reasons so perhaps that's why.

I think you're being unkind about the SNP. They're the first party in Scotland to show how inadequate the last 50 years of government by labour have been. Who else has done that? Certainly not the libdems in partnership with labour in the Scottish Parliament for 8 years before the SNP became the government.

I'm all for independence but I leave myself free to criticise every party's policies as I see fit.

Have to agree with you, there are so many in every 'unionist' party who think independence would be a good thing, but they have an aversion to the SNP for some reason. The SNP lot are a good bunch, on the whole, from my view. There are fanatics in every political party who detest anyone straying from the party line and that's upsetting. Anyway us bloggers can cope with them can't we.subrosahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00151702590329788260noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6091725511821029654.post-49483636369200223412009-08-07T22:39:33.844+01:002009-08-07T22:39:33.844+01:00Ever since I was a boy in the coocaddens in the la...Ever since I was a boy in the coocaddens in the late fifties early sixties that's all I've heard, Scotland is the sick man of Europe and their still fucking saying it!

Independance? I doubt it was Sean, could have been second generation like Rod Stewart. Ol' Rod gets a lot of grief but the man is talented and has real balls. Anyone who doubts it just needs to remember he was one of the first white men to sing at the Harlem Apollo and what song did he sing? Only Otis fuckin' Reading - that takes some balls.
As far as the Oil goes I have tried to work out the net revenue to England, (used to trade oil futures for a brief period), and it is impossible seeing as it is taxed at source, at point of sale and through corporate taxes. I would guess that one hundred billion a year since nineteen eighty is about right. Peak production in ninety two was about six million barrels a day, roughly two thirds of Saudi production and I don't know if you have noticed but Mary Hill or Govan bears little resemblance to Saudi Arabia, (too many drunks for a start). Its also worth bearing in mind that Norwegians who have a strategic oil reserve fund have the highest standard of living in the world and the average pension is ninety percent of final salary. The exploitation of the oil isn't my main problem. It is the fact that all Oil producing waters are regarded as effectively UK water even in the event of an independent Scotland. I think the term is Ex Regina, but it basically means that Scotland does not enjoy the territorial claim to its waters that every single nation does. Still maybe there is sense in letting the English manage things, after all we took ovewr their banks and look how well that turned out.Tonihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01388697157749171410noreply@blogger.com
