Welcome to my scheme.

Marvin realises his Giro has been nicked...

Well, I know I have neglected this place somewhat. My blogging mojo has, or had, left and I had no intention of dribbling anything onto the internet for some time to come.

But last night I watched a 'fly on the wall' documentary about the area I live in. I was ashamed and embarrassed for Kilmarnock and Scotland. The urge to poke at my keyboard has returned...

If you have a spare fifty minutes click the link and watch it. The street I live in and the shops I frequent are shown several times. The area is infested with the lowlife that the programme features.

Already there are some deluded souls out there who are saying that the production team has only focused on the negative aspects of the area. The simple fact of the matter is that the people featured affect the whole area and everyone who resides in the area. 'Normal' well adjusted family units do not affect the neighbourhood in a negative way. People like those in the documentary seriously affect the local area, the choices these cretins make always affect others.

Of course, a whole industry has sprung up around these people. Legal or otherwise. Hundreds of thousands are employed up and down the land to support families and individuals who choose to live like Marvin and the Cunningham family.

The programme should be compulsory viewing for all politicians. It should also be mandatory viewing for the bleeding hearts in the support industry, the bleeding hearts that paint them all as victims.

My family and I are desperately trying to get out of the area but as we are a normal family unit with no 'issues' we have little chance of getting out soon. But don't feel sorry for me, I've made my bed and I'll lie in it. I refuse to play the house buying game, although I could easily afford it.

Anyway, happy viewing....

Watching. It quickly became clear that subtitles will be needed.

Rab,
House buying is not a game. It's a lifestyle choice.

Do you want to live in the pits for the rest of your life?
Or do you want to rise above it all and start a new life?

Simple choice I'd have thought.

Cato, buying a house is a mugs game. Anyway, a lot of the houses in my area have been bought.

Catosays said...

Rab, I'm sorry but you're wrong. Buying is never a mugs game.

Have you thought about moving from your area, now that the houses round you have been bought?

Now why would they have been bought if it's such a mugs game?

Or are you pulling my pisser?

At today's prices, of course it's a mugs game. Over £100k for an ex council house? Fuck off!!

The houses around me were bought years ago, courtesy of Mrs Thatcher and her discounts.

They are now filled with cunts that are on housing benefit and the landlords pocket £500 a month rent, paid for by the tax payer.

Honestly, that was pure entertainment. Can't wait for the next one....

Rab, you've proved my point.

I watched the documentary last night and, although I'm from Glasgow, found the subtitles provided by Freeview useful at times. I thought about the decent people who live beside 'folk like that' and how they must feel having their area blackened by the BBC.

Of course when the BBC want to tell people how bad life can be when drink and drugs are involved, they always link in to Scotland. Really sorry Kilmarnock was shown in such a bad light.

They did the same thing with Big Mags Haney in 2002. She lived in THE RAPLOCH (area) in Stirling and was convicted of running the largest heroin empire in Stirling and sent to Cornton Vale. The BBC revisited in 2007 - expect them back to Kilmarnock!

Maybe some good will come out of the documentary RR. I wonder whit the other Rantin Rabbie would say?

Rab,

What would you do in the unlikely event that someone bequested you a million pounds? Would you stay where you are with the money in your pocket, or move to an area of tranquil serenity, knowing full well that you'd have to pay for that privilege, but also secure that your kid would be far less likely to come across the reprobates featured in the featured BBC documentary, on a day to day basis?

Properties a quandary that people can have differing opinions about, and yet sometimes you have to do whats best for the people that you care about, even if that means coming away from your own fundamentals.

Personally for me, it's each to their own.

Get out of there Rab. Shared equity schemes might help you. House prices are going down at the moment so you could land a bargain. I go to the auctions in Glasgow ( countrywide auctions) and there are plenty of houses at 60K etc.

That's what a lifetime of labour has done Rab. Now Dundee's in the hands of the SNP things are at last taking some shape.

RantinRab said...

Subrosa, SNP now run East Ayrshire and things are slowly changing also.

D&C, You wouldn't see us for dust! A big house in the countryside would be my first purchase.

Mark Wadsworth said...

RR, I'll be sorry to see you fo (again).

Anyway, stick to your guns on why the sale of council housing to private landlords and renting them back for five times what it would have cost to keep them was a shit idea.

RantinRab said...

Cato, perhaps I see a house as a home. Not an investment.

Money means little to me. Strange view for a so called Libertarian!

Mark, it's all a game really, isn't it? We're all conditioned into the buying property malarky. I can't understand why rising house prices are celebrated like they are. We wouldn't do a cart wheel if the price of buying food or power goes up. Or maybe I just don't get it.

I'm with you Rab. I can't find the link right now, but try and find what Peter Schiff had to say about the housing market (in the US, but the idea is general enough). It's not always a mug's game - certainly not in the very long term - but it's not the rock-solid dead cert it's made out to be either.

And there's nothing un-libertarian about being uninterested in having more wealth than you need. Liberty, remember?

I understood more of what was said in that show than I do on my own streets!

Hate saying it though, but damn did that bring back memories of Trainspotting.

At the risk of being slagged off by all and sundry, as I don't know who the fuck you all support up there in Jockland. Is there a good reason why, that whenever I see these Scottish documentaries, all of the no hopers and oxygen thieves, have one thing in common, in that more often than not, many seem to be wearing Celtic tops.

Being a typical English atheist I can just about work out, that ordinarily, that would mean Catholics of Irish descent, but surely that's not a disadvantage now in the twenty first Century that we now inhabit, to still pull the disadvantaged class war line of "poor me". Is It?

west coast bigots said...

dazed...

Nah. Just West of Scotland bigotry.

The Scottish cup final was between 2 non west coast teams this year ( ross county and dundee united). 50,000 folk. No arrests, we all met in the pub before and after the game for a party, we cheered each other at the end and went home happy.
Usually mayhem when either Rangers or Celtic are in any football game.

Dark Lochnagar said...

Rab Can I agree with the East coast Bigot above. Anyway, 'scheme'? Do you not mean your 'estate'?

You're exactly right. It's a total mugs game.

Take a look at these links to learn more about house prices:

This chart alone speaks volumes:

Given the current economic problems and our current position in the UK property bubble cycle, would you REALLY want to take on a huge 30 year debt just now?

Start saving a 20k deposit for when housing in your area goes down to around 60k. (I'd recommend that you don't save that money in £.)
