How much longer?

The British public, earlier today. And tomorrow and the day after that...

With the news earlier today of MP's wives 'hatching a plot' to get round the proposed new rules about the 646 employing spouses as office managers/assistants or whatever came a sudden realisation in my walnut like brain.

It is pretty much accepted by all that 'they' don't give a toss what we think of them. The news today is just another in a long history of contempt for the people of this country. They keep pushing the limit of our patience and tolerance.

And you know what? I can't blame them.

Don't get me wrong, I am sickened and angered by all the troughing and sleaze. I would join the end of a very long queue to string one of them up by piano wire to a lamp post.

The blogosphere will erupt for a day or so, the MSM may cover the story. A statement may be issued by someone or other. And that would be that.

Whether the 'loophole' in the proposed new rule is allowed or not is irrelevant. The point is that they have tested the water just to see what the reaction would be.

Push, push, push. Always pushing. Just to see what would happen. Just to see how far they can go, how much they can get away with.

So, to the title of the post.

How much longer will the British Sheeple tolerate the endless piss taking by politicians? It would seem that we are being tested with every new revelation. I can just imagine the scene in some bunker, deep underground somewhere, there is a hardcore bunch of troughing 'advisors' leaking out ideas to their gratefull clients whilst watching the media like a hawk. Watching for reaction from the sheeple.

'Great news', they cry, slapping each other on the back, 'they didn't bat an eyelid on that one. No rioting in the streets'.

'Just a few letters to the Daily Mail and the idiot bloggers foaming at the mouth. Right, let's go for another one...'

Looking around at people I know, friends and workmates, I'm sorry to say that I think this is going to go on for a very long time. Words are not enough. As long as the sheeple are entertained and kept in beer and LCD televisions it will go on and on.

Let's bring the dead sheep of the British People back to life.

One of the spouses in question was on Channel 4 news on Saturday night. She didn't seem to give a shit what John Snow said or thought, she was right the public were "misguided" in their beliefs....

Full stop, period...

No morals, no scruples, and if they didn't get what THEY wanted, then they'd "Flip" like the M.P.s, on the non stop gravy train that is the public purse.

Interesting points Mr Nesbit..

The public are afraid to voice any kind of opinion in case someone is offended and it lands them in the shit, either at work or with the police etc or even gets them a good kicking...

people grumble to their mates etc and then its heads down, back to the struggle of just getting through the days..

I`m as guilty of it as anyone..ho hum!

I had a mad moment last week when I was going to shut this down. I very nearly did it.

Then I remembered that they would win. Sort of.

Here's a perfect example:

"A Norfolk grandmother was questioned by police after writing a letter objecting to a Gay Pride Parade in Norwich which she said was a “public display of indecency” and “offensive to God”.

The letter sent to the council, in which she also blamed gay sexual practices for spreading sexually transmitted diseases, was deemed as potentially “hate related” by staff who have a duty to “eliminate discrimination” of all kinds.

As a result she was visited at home by two female officers from Norfolk police but after questioning no further action was taken."

Note the words "Potentially" & "Eliminate"

So what happened to freedom of speech? It's little wonder that we're a nation of sheep...

I don't think they'll stop troughing until an MP is sentenced to some serious jail time.

Not going to happen, so they will carry on troughing.

I think we'll have to wait and see what the Tories bring in with their idea of "small" governement. Failing that we will have to go for independence because the smaller the constituency the easier it is to influence.

Dunno if this is more akin to Dogging or plain old fashioned Swinging.

I think the public are misguided in their beliefs.

It more sensible for MPs to employ their partners to manage their diary and act as their PAs than it would be to employ a stranger.

And it saves the taxpayer money, because the partners will work 24/7 and will do whatever is required whereas a "nornal" employee would not, at least not without being paid an exorbitant salary.

Rab, excellent post. It's a subject that bothers me much.

At what stage do the 'ordinary' people come together and speak with a voice that is taken notice of?

It happened during the Poll tax introduction (why not when other unjust taxes were introduced?).

It happened when fuel prices rose, once (why not after every increase?)

It happened, most recently, over the MPs expenses scandal (but nothing since)

I can only presume it happens when some form of organisation is applied. I don't mean a central petition, or a committee, or anything normally thought of when talking about organising. I mean something that triggers indignation and anger from multiple unconnected people, that grows, until the combined indignation & anger cannot be ignored by those at the top.

This organisation might be the power of the Internet, someone like you, and like minded people, putting their thoughts on here for anyone to read. Perhaps there needs to be a critical mass of similar opinion being expressed at the same time, then people read it, and realise their own indignation and anger is shared and they are not alone.

After all, we are more likely to speak up if we know there are others who share our thoughts.

I hope you carry on blogging in the way you are. You are a normal bloke with the gift of expressing your thoughts coherently on paper. People, like me, who do not have this talent, need people like you to give credence and validity to our own thoughts.

Good post, well done.
