MSP's salaries and expenses

Just as the Westminster expenses is hitting the news again in the Daily Telegraph, (apparently to help shift a few books), I've been alerted to the publication of the salaries and expenses of the Scottish Parliament for the past few years.

They refused to release the latest figures, for some strange reason.

The publication came about after a FOI, (Freedom Of Information), request. What I find staggering is that the expenses claimed nearly equal the salaries paid out.

As far as I know there is no breakdown to individual MSPs, for the time being.

Year Cost of Salaries Cost of Expenses Approx percentage
2007/08 £11,301,000 £9,727,000 86%
2006/07 £10,050,000 £9,738,000 97%
2005/06 £9,698,000 £9,572,000 98%
2004/05 £9,600,000 £8,896,000 93%

It obviously comes with the territory.

I suppose politicians have always been grasping bastards, it's only now that we have the temerity to demand the truth and question their thieving ways.

Come independence, there won't be any Freedom of Information Act. Make use of it while you can.

See I told you so!

The SNP have reduced costs - although salaries have increased.

Bummer.

Edgar, everything in the utopia of an independent Scotland will be transparent. There will be no need for FOI acts and such. All the info will be on the website for every country in the world to see.
